Maxsum Service Update – End of Life Planning for Sophos XG Series Firewall Hardware

Sophos, one of Maxsum’s priority Security product and service vendors, has advised that Sophos XG Series Firewall Hardware will reach end of life as at 31/03/2025. 

No new purchases of Sophos XG Series Firewall Devices are possible.

A firewall is a network security device that monitors incoming and outgoing network traffic and decides whether to allow or block specific traffic based on a defined set of security rules. Its primary purpose is to establish a barrier between your internal network and incoming traffic from external sources (such as the internet) in order to block malicious traffic like viruses and hackers.

Essentially, a firewall acts as the first line of defense in network security by filtering out potentially dangerous traffic and preventing unauthorized access to the private data on your network.

If you are a Maxsum Managed IT Services client, then your Maxsum Account Manager will have already raised firewall hardware refresh, replacement or upgrade discussions with your organisation’s primary IT contact. When your Sophos XG Series firewall hardware reaches end of life on 31/03/2025, the monthly license subscription you currently have with Maxsum for this product will also expire. Your Maxsum Account Manager can provide you with your subscription/license renewal dates and terms leading up to the 31/03/2025 end of life date.

The lead time to end of life for this product provides organisations with a great opportunity to upgrade to new Sophos XGS Series hardware and consider moving to Proactive Managed IT Security by Maxsum to add managed threat detection and response capabilities across your environment.

If you do not have a MaxGuard Managed IT Services Agreement with Maxsum or if Maxsum supplied your existing Sophos XG Firewall hardware under a Technical Services arrangement, we recommend you seek alternative arrangements to provide a firewall solution to replace your expiring Sophos XG series device.

If your Sophos XG Series firewall hardware is uncontracted month-by-month, a cancellation action can be taken at any time. Please advise Maxsum if you would like to cancel this service at any time prior to 31/03/2025, once you have sourced a replacement product/service. Please note, if you have not contacted us before 31/03/2025 the service will be cancelled automatically.

Maxsum no longer supplies or supports Sophos XG series hardware to non-Maxsum-managed/technical services clients. Your regular service or technical provider may be able to assist you in this regard, otherwise please Contact Us to discuss your Managed IT Support Service options.
